But the main thing is, Tootie, that we're all going to be together, just like we've always been.

Meet Me in St. Loius kills me EVERY TIME. I love it so.

I am especially the hugest sucker for the part when the family has been quarreling about the impending move to New York and Papa and Mama wander into the living room and she plays the piano and he goes, "You haven't played that one in years" and starts singing along in much too high a pitch, "You and I, together forever..." and she goes, "I'll put in down in your key," and then they sing together a song that WRENCHES my heart..."Time goes by, but we'll be together...you and I." And all the family slowly and peacefully drifts back downstairs to share cake and listen.

This movie is FILLED with moments that follow me daily in the the dreams of my waking life. Cause I've watched it way too many times over the years.

"If you like-a me and I like-a you and we like-a both the same..."

"Oh John, I don't hate you. I just hate BASKETBALL." (that's one I've used on Darin a few times)

"Oh Mr. NEEEEELLYYYY"

"here comes the old maid now..."

"I just adore him, so I can't ignore him...the boy next door."

It's not exactly a Christmas movie but I think it counts because most of the major actions happens during the holidays.
Especially, best of all, the Christmas dance and my DREAM DRESS:

And of course, the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," written for the movie and sung so heart-wrenchingly by Judy Garland to adorable little Margaret O'Brien in the most moving scene of the whole film:

And the lesson that as long as they are together they'll be happy. Since that's what Christmas is all about, being close to the ones you love.

Now, add fuel to my festive fire: what's your favorite Christmas movie?

bah humbug.... Just joking. Just last Sunday when we had no heater. I got a big bowl of HOT water for my feet and watched Little Women, and gave myself a lovely little pedi. I love that movie more than anything. And like yours,it's not really a Christmas movie, but it totally is!! Of course we have been watching a ton of Christmas movies with the kids. Oey is afraid of the Jim Carrey, The Grinch who stole Christmas. But we love the classics like frosty and Rudolph. I kind of feel like watching -The Family Man. I think it is such a great Christmas movie. Anyways, I feel bad but must confess, I have never seen your favorite movie which shocks and appalls me. I thought I knew ALL the musicals, because I love them soooo. Wish they made movies like that still. Love the blog Heather oxxoxo
oh AMY YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT!!! maybe we can watch it while you're here...we can have a cuddly girly night to watch it. darin makes fun of me because he knows the sisters (there are 4 sisters like Little Women) influenced me and Addie growing up. You will love the trolley song, the costumes, the love stories, the HUMOR, Katie the maid, the list goes on and on. Now I can't wait to see it with you!

I will have to watch this! I know my grandma has it and adores it. My favorite Christmas movie is probably It's a Wonderful Life.
