for a little while, the sun came back! perfect for ringing in the beginning of spring. i got to try out a very special new-to-me dress, which i received in a delightful surprise package from the adorable and thoughtful sanya of heart:speak .  she also included a wonderful book, a leaf pendant you'll be seeing here, and the sweetest most heartfelt card in the wide world. i felt so incredibly blessed that this little tiny space in the huge ole interweb made yet another great connection possible. our plum trees might not fruit anymore but they are full of blossoms this time of year. tiny white petals are floating down the breeze and landing on my cats' backs. we had snow on sunday and now everything has sprung back to life.  we made it through!  everybody in the household loves a glorious day outside. soon it will be time to fix up the gypsy hut again, and round up some friends for a garden party. meanwhil...

last days of summer

Image
summer ends tonight. the days are still 94 degrees here and we've been making the most of it. yesterday we went to a local brewery to share a farmhouse ale and take some photos with our new holga-style lens.  i love it. darin did some modeling for my shop . that's why we ended up at the brewery. he said, i'll be much more agreeable about all this if i get a beer in me. check out that iris!  damn i love embroidered shirts. you can truly feel the love and beauty and care in the stitchery.  i wore this DeGrazia pendant i thrifted earlier in the day. twice we have visited and rhapsodized over DeGrazia's Gallery in the Sun in Tucson; we were there on our road trip last fall. it deserves its own post and one day i will show it. meanwhile, i love the colors and shapes and tenderness of this papoose etching on wood.  i also wore two raggedy cotton slips as a skirt. the top one is really tattered around the waist a...

apple picking days

Image
on sunday evening i got a bee in my bonnet to go to apple hill and do a little photo shoot. now usually on a sunday in september, i would never brave the teeming crowds at apple hill, but this time it was after hours. all the farmstands had closed up shop, the craft stands were covered in canvas, the sun was going down over the western vineyards sloping down into the canyon, and i had the orchards all to myself! i wanted to do a little modeling for my etsy shop but i am soooo very awkward about solo photo shoots for so many reasons including but not limited to:  1. if a car drives by and i think there is a chance anyone will see me photographing myself i get super flustered and embarrassed and fight the urge to run and hide and instead stand there trying to look natural and looking like a total dumbstruck moron instead  2. i feel like i am trespassing (cause i am) and glance sneakily and guiltily around all the time ...

summer solstice magic and music

Image
it was like the day cast in magic light. at the bookstore i worked with sharon, a wise woman who knows healing and herbs and energies. sharon brought organic strawberries to share with me, and tiny silver forks to eat them with. our friend noel came to visit with her new baby wyatt. we got flowers from a local beekeeper gal, straight from her vigorous garden.   in the evening we went to play at lotus park down by the river with our friends. in celebration, i opened a bottle of madrona wine, a delicious and refreshing dry riesling, that was a gift from our friend tim wright a couple years back. (i'd been saving it for the right moment!) beauty. summer. skin. sunshine. dogs. water. sparkle. dive. flow. grass. wine. run. wild.   the photos really speak for themselves, that feeling , oh how it kills me, flowing through me when the seasons change and making me know i am part of it all, we are al...
