blue moon

Tonight I am blue.
I am not accustomed to feeling melancholy. Especially when rain is softly falling and the full harvest moon is still eerily shining through misty gray clouds.
Or maybe it is just fall and so everything is softer round the edges and a little bit frayed.

and so maybe my heart is just too soft tonight and that is why it is easily broken.
I have been haunted by snippets of poetry from Edna St. Vincent Millay,
ever since I was eighteen years old:
"...but the rain
is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
upon my windowpane and listen for reply,
and in my heart there stirs a quiet pain..."
Tomorrow night a Harvest Moon celebration with friends should warm my soul back up.
And then I will repeat another favorite line:
"Oh world, I cannot hold thee close enough!
Thy winds, thy wide grey skies!
Thy mists, that roll and rise!
Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag,
And all but cry with colour! The gaunt crag
To crush! To lift the lean of that black bluff!
World! World! I cannot get thee close enough."
And hopefully then I'll want to cry in the GOOD way...

I love all those fresh raw feelings. It feels good to let those heavy grey skies rest upon your shoulders. Sounds like the perfect time to lite your fireplace and read some more Edna St. Vincent Millay- with a journal near by!!!
