i got tagged by andrea at her lovely blog to do this little list and amuse myself for a while on a cloudy day.

What is your current obsession?
as you can probably tell, French New Wave films. For example, I am addicted to watching the vibrant colors in Pierrot Le Fou: ice blue, blood red, snow white. And the way Corinne Marchand sings this song called Cry of Love (Sans Toi) in Agnes Varda's Cleo 5 to 7 and completely changes her approach to life. I love the way these films explore rebellion and freedom: freedom from ideologies and narratives that impose limits and trap us with their boundaries.

What is your weirdest obsession ?
ummmm...maybe my new Bonger. Everyone makes fun of me for it but I INSIST UPON ADORING IT.

What are you wearing today ?
white ruffly skirt, velvety navy blue vest with flowers and birds on it, and a puff sleeve turquoise shirt underneath. barefeet and clean hair.

What’s for dinner ?
baked tofu, salad, beans. we're trying to be really healthy starting today!

What would you eat for your last meal ?
big black bean burrito with spanish rice, homemade pico de gallo, tons of cilantro, cheese, fresh avocado, lime and salt.

What’s the last thing you bought ?
chocolates from Topaz Lodge on our way up Hwy 395 on our way home from Bodie last night. Oh wait, I already went grocery shopping today too but that's too boring. A few days ago I bought a bunch of books at the Bookery on Main Street including Abbey's Road by Edward Abbey and The Mountains of California by John Muir both for Joey for his birthday.

What are you listening to right now ?
In the summer I love to listen to Haley Bonar and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. I am excited to get the new albums by Iron and Wine and Grizzly Bear. Also, I've been listening to a lot of french pop music, just made myself a great playlist. And right this moment I'm listening to Bonnie Prince Billy.

What is your favorite ice-cream flavour ?
Chocolate Malted Crunch from Thriftys. But my real favorite would be freshly made coconut gelado in Mexico. Or elote (corn).

What do you think of the person who tagged you ?
Andrea has a beautiful blog and does the most inspring activities with her adorable daughter. Her artwork is incredibly sweet and diverse -- I love how she will paint on anything and likes to decorate natural objects. She seems like someone that would be so nice to have around all the time!

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be ?
Right by the American River with forest for a backyard and the river for a front yard. Or on a cliff by the Pacific Ocean up by Mendocino with a little path down to the beach.

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Ride a dolphin in the middle of the ocean.

Which language do you want to learn ?
I can speak Spanish fairly well but I want to be fluent and I also NEED to learn FRENCH!

What’s your favorite quote (for now) ?
"Talk of heaven! Ye disgrace earth." Thoreau, Walden
also
"she never was a queen or a fairy she was always a king or a giant or a general" from Faulkner's Sound and the Fury
also
"Was it a vision, or a waking dream?/Fled is that music - Do I wake or sleep?" from John Keats' "Ode to a Nightingale"

What is your favorite colour ?
I love all colors! Mostly turquoise, pink, and yellow in the summer. But I am not exaggerating when I say I love all colors.

Who are your favourite (fictional or not) heroes ?
Isabel Archer from Portrait of a Lady (if I were her I'd change her ending), Walt Whitman, Black Elk, Tea Cake in Their Eyes Were Watching God, Tayo in Ceremony, Anna Karenina, Anais Nin, Maya Deren, my family.

What is one of your favorite daily/weekly rituals ?
in the summer: going to the river with friends, eating at Fresh Mex afterwards and finishing up with a coconut popsicle

Favourite designer ?
the lovely sisters of Velvet Leaf and Jamaica Rose Cole of Sapphire Cordial.

Do you admire any one’s style ?
I'll stick with Andrea's answer: the folksy gals of violet folklore, amber and sasha!

Describe your personal style ?
I mostly only wear skirts and dresses and I love anything embroidered, vintage, gauzy, lacy, and ruffled. I like barefeet or sandals or boots. Nothing really in between. I like to feel like a mermaid or a Parisian prositute in the 1930s or an earthy farmer. I like comfortable, pretty, soft, well-loved, sweet and fun clothing. I never go out without dangly earrings of some sort and necklaces, mostly homemade.

What are you going to do after this ?
Take my bike to the bike shop for a tune up and then read Madame Bovary.

What are your favourite films ?
I've already talked about this but right now French New Wave: Truffaut and Godard and also Agnes Varda. I also love Wes Anderson films, Miyazaki, Terrence Malick, darren aronorsky, maya deren, charlie kaufman, woody allen, sofia coppola.

What’s your favourite fruit ?
plums

What inspires you ?
books, hiking, ghost towns, old fashioned things, the river, different cultures around the world, music, the amazing and creative people around me like my husband Darin and my sister Adrienne and my three brothers Matt, Mikie and Joey, each of whom are doing exciting and adventurous things on a regular basis. Also all my friends and the conversations we have and the way we dance wildly together.

What is on the walls in your bedroom ?
they are painted pink and there is a paper map of Paris, lacy curtains, tiny antique framed Victorian paintings of garden girls, a turquoise Mardi Gras mask, peacock feathers, a mirror, a painting called Garden of Love by Remedios Varo.

Your favorite book ?
Ilove thousands of books. There are so many authors I admire and enjoy that I can't begin to name them so here are a few: I love poetry by Naomi Shihab Nye. I just finished Azar Nafisi's Reading Lolita in Tehran, which was inspiring and haunting. I am currently reading Madame Bovary by Flaubert.

Do you collect something ?
vintage aprons

What is one of your pet peeves ?
my unmade bed

What is your favorite scent?
star jasmine or magnolia

So, if you’d like to play along friends (no pressure) I tag :
amber and/or sasha of violet folklore (I'll keep them on here just to reinforce Andrea's tag!)
adrienne of windows to green
amy of the beattys run rampant
dolly of dolly and teddy tell it like it is
emily from beattytopia
mikie from mikielove
matt from death of a mooncowboy

Heather!! That was so fun.. but whats a bonger? I feel like I already knew everything about you until you said Plum was your favorite fruit! I really had no idea. Matt was just putting music on my ipod last night and I told him I wanted Haley bonar, but sad day. The one thing Matty doesn't have. At least I have the few songs of hers from you, of course. What would I do with out you my lovely? I just got a new cute old fashioned apron at Calico. I know you love colors. You are just has bright and beautiful to look at as a rainbow. And you always look so adorable. I think your Mom is on to something when she says you and adie always start the fashion trend. Love you, and am wishing I got to eat that yummy dinner with you! xoxo
