Master and Everyone

Bonnie Prince Billy at The Center for the Arts Grass Valley CA 10-26-10 from heather beatty on Vimeo . the other night i got to go see the master himself, mister bonnie prince billy. we have loved him for years and darin and i saw him play teeny bar shows a few times back in 2002-2003, but lately every time he comes around northern cali his shows sell out really quickly or they are in undesirably big venues. not this time! he played right over the river and through the woods, in magical little grass valley where my sister used to live. at the center for the arts downtown, with the loveliest little crowd. there is even a cat who hangs out for the shows. i dressed up in bright colors because b.p.b makes me realllly cheerful. hanging out afterwards at the nevada club, listening the tunes bonnie played on the juke. what a show! i highly recommend it if he and his wonderful entourage comes to your area. oh how he makes my heart soar. oh ta

the Bee's Knees

the lovely and inspiring Bellisimama "Bee" from Bonfire of my Vanity , sent me a sweet package in the mail! with flowy blouses... rad books.... and a goddess pendant. all perfect little items to help enjoy a fall day outside with my rambunctious cats. feeling very goddessy in this slinky golden blouse, which is perfect because it came from a powerfully goddessy woman! i once took an african-caribbean dance class and learned about orishas, powerful dieties from ancient Yoruba spiritual practices. we each chose a diety that we resonated with and did a presentation about him/her. mine was Oshun , goddess of love, fertility, sensuality, sex, beauty, and the river. sounds like someone we know , huh?! our teacher told us to pay special attention to items that are gifted to us. i realized that often people give me things that are yellow or golden, the color that is associated with Oshun. she also loves mirrors, peacock fea

Pippi's Pre-Halloween Adventures

Image
i decided to dress as one of my personal heroes, Pippi Longstocking, for my friend Jackie's pre-halloween costume party. unfortunately, i was not catching on to the whole wire-in-the-braids thing. i tried to use floral wire = droopy braid mess! walked into the party, and immediately this lovely lady, Jessica, took me under her wing and said, hang on. you need a coat wire! (why didn't i think of this?!!) voila...pippi success! my braids defy gravity! hehe, and so does emily's cushy bum, as kim kardashian.... we joined two mysterious ladies in the bathroom.... to play with the most adorable little girl kitten! i pretended she was my wily pet monkey. then we joined mister jerry seinfeld. and some enigmatic floral wallpaper who kept sneaking up on unsuspecting party guests...  a cloaked stranger... some friendly bandits... and our hostess, miss poison ivy herself, and hit the dance flo

Tuesdays in my Town - Apple Hill

Image
How fun to be back to my regularly scheduled "Tuesdays in my Town!" This week I'll show you a place that has probably popped up on my blog many times before. But we'll make it official...I give you... APPLE HILL ! Darin and I went up on Friday. We thought that didn't count as a weekend and wouldn't be too crowded. We were wrong. There were schoolbuses, tour buses, crowds galore. We are spoiled since Apple Hill is so nearby, so we avoid the crowds at all costs. But we won't let that stop us from getting our apples: apples.... and more apples! This is High Hill Ranch, the most popular and busiest of all of Apple Hill. I can't resist stopping by because their caramel is buttery and their fritters are just plain delish. But the truth is, all the ranches in Apple Hill are good and if the only time you can make it up is a weekend, I recommend checking out one of the smaller ones. see, the neighboring pumpkin patch was eve
