responsibility

this little face looking up at me.... is the most precious thing i could ever have imagined. i always knew logically what a big deal it is to have a kid. obviously nothing to be taken lightly, obviously life changing, and so forth. but until i actually birthed and began to raise my own daughter, i had no idea the true magnitude of that responsibility. being a parent is a much bigger deal than i ever could have dreamt. i can't even believe how nonchalant people act about it.(i mean, yeah, people are doing it every day all over the world but...wow.) did it change me forever? yes. am i still the same person too? well yes. i am beyond what i was because of the way i share my life.  me and this crazy wonderful person i call my husband make decisions every moment about this new life that we created.  this simple fact is actually mind blowingly huge. if anyone asked me, so shouldn't everyone have kids? i'd say no! only people who are committed...

A Holiday Stroll through the Mall

Image
December is flying by! I thought life was fast before having a baby, geez. My head is spinning.  And all I want to do is scoop up this sweetness into my arms and breathe her in and just love love love her. Meanwhile we are staying quite busy with all manner of holiday fun.  Last week we went to the mall, yes, the mall. I go about once every year or two, at Christmastime of course.  We rode down with Nana and Lucy got to hold her Christmas bracelet in the car, such a treat: S ide note: by the way, Sadie and Anne , I have now mastered "ninja nursing" and thanks for the tip. Met up with Addie and Art there...look how cute she is!!! Can't believe her little guy is almost here, four more weeks. They were our galleria guides. I wanted to thoughtfully compose a post about consumerism and shopping and the holidays, but instead I am just writing about a trip to the mall. Haha, the irony! I even found a skirt for $2.99 at Charlotte Russe. Gross huh....

in all things give thanks

soooo much to be thankful for this year! 2012: for me, as you all know, the year of the baby!!! that made thanksgiving extra extra sweet. here is lucy meeting great grandma georgie who is 100 years old...soon to be 101. she loved her, must've been all those cool wrinkles ;) nana came over to spend thanksgiving morning with us. addie, 34 weeks pregnant, was super thankful for monkey bread this year. she'd been looking forward to it for weeks, calling me up repeatedly to make sure we had enough ingredients for two or three, hell, four pans of it! do you guys make monkey bread? it's our t-giving morning tradition. stupid good. pops enjoying some gooey goodness. we may have a vegetarian thanksgiving but i won't claim it's "healthy." these boys did most of the cooking, artie's specialty is veggies of all sorts and joey's specialty is breads. see what i mean?! 34 weeks and looking GOOD. thankful for bounty, ...

oh how i love the holiday season! i have lots more november posts i want to work on but for now i can't resist jumping straight into the christmas merrymaking! on a bright afternoon last week just before the rainstorms came, we headed out to find this year's christmas tree. we went back to the organic farm from last year , when this little toot was about as big as a blueberry inside me. to our dismay there was a sign up that read "closed for the 2012 season"and a for sale sign for the property (anyone? christmas tree farm and massive organic vegetable garden? 3 parcels of 3 acres each? sound good?) luckily, darin knows the owner nancy, who just happened to be walking by. he jumped out to say hello and she let us go pick out a tree.  he asked how much and she said, "Aw, have a tree! Merry Christmas!"  hooray for a free organic tree! lucy sported a little santa hat that addie and i wore when we were babies. pretty cute, eh? facin...
