social butterfly

i had a nice easter weekend, partly because i'm finally turning back into a social butterfly! (that nesting thing has had me staying home more often than not lately) addie came to town and we went to check out marmy's new digs. my mom and her hubby moved into the cutest little cottage close to town with a pretty yard and space for a trampoline for his two daughters!  it has the most charming screened-in sunporch. the girls want to have slumber parties here during the summer. my mom has a knack at making a home comfy and pretty.  her cat, nettie, helps a lot with that too. some easter eggs made by jack's two daughters. they are age 11 and 14 and very crafty. my stepsisters. wow. (i forget sometimes!) that night there was a big show down at our favorite local hang out and bar, cozmic cafe. our friend scott's band, san similar played which always draws a crowd. and this time his openers were comprised of other old friends who go w...

Wild West Soiree

Image
friday night i headed across the canyon in the cool fall eve to join my sister and her friends in nevada city for a big ol' wild west style bash that she's been cooking up for quite some time.  everyone showed up in kerchiefs, boots, leather, turquoise, suspenders, vests, holsters, bullets and feathers. true hoe-down fashion.  i wore an antique black corset, silky blue feather boa, and poufy black bloomers with blue ribbons. we slugged whiskey from flasks and stirred cocktails with a stick. there were cakes soaked in rum and shaped like cowboy boots. flags, stars, lights, and homemade saloon doors. addie even had tinny ragtime music coming from hidden speakers so it sounded like it was playing in some haunted basement. there's me frolicking with sasha . the dancing just couldn't quit. four september birthday girls celebrated that night: addie, bee, andi, and kristen. what grand old dames, a saucy brothel, a beauteous bevy! kriste...

dolly in love ... and her totally diy free spirit wedding

Image
yes, 3 weddings in the span of a week: a big one , a tiny one , and one perfectly charming, totally DIY, utterly romantic medium size one. dolly and tyler. beautiful dreamers extraordinaires... so, dolly is the sister of my sister-in-law amy. so the timing was extra convenient for matt and amy and their kids , who were coming to town for both our mom's and her sis's wedding. dolly and i have a sweet kinship...plus the fact that she loves funky thrifted clothes, lives with her hands in the dirt, dances like a wild woman, laughs often, and believes with all her heart in sustainability and a nature-centered life, which she shares abundantly with her little 3 year old son Teddy. i adore the gal. you would too. so, dolly was unbelievably relaxed and nonchalant when it came to planning the wedding festivities. all she cared is that it feel like a "big patchwork quilt" of love and friendship, that the colors evoke meadowlands and the"deep spr...
